The storm hit the southern and central United States during the Christmas holiday doing aflood and a Tornado that killed at least 34people, toppled buildings and snarledtransportation for millions during the busy time travel.

At least 11 people were killed in the Dallas areaover the weekend by tornadoes, including onePacking winds up to 200 miles per hour (322km per hour). Twister hit the town of Garland, killing eight people and blew the vehicle away from the highway.

"Tornado power it is very rare in the metropolitan area," National Weather Servicemeteorologist Matt Bishop said in a telephone interview. Powerful Tornado staple of spring and summer in the Central States and occursless often during the winter, according to USweather data

Three other deaths were reported in the Dallasmetropolitan area, United States fourth most populated by about 7 million people. A number of people injured in the area, officials said.

"It was total destruction," Police spokesmanLieutenant Pedro Barineau Garland said. "It wasa very difficult time to be struck by a terriblestorm the day after Christmas."

The storm comes on the heels of a Tornadothat struck two days before Christmas, killingat least 18 people, including 10 in Mississippi.

Five Tornadoes were reported in Texas and onein Oklahoma on Saturday, said the National Weather Service.

More could be on their way on Sunday, saidthe Agency, which issued a tornado watch forseveral Houston-area counties and warning for areas south of Jackson, Mississippi.

A tornado watch means a storm is likely, whilea warning means a hurricane or storm visible.

The Governor of Texas Greg Abbott said his Office has declared the nearby Dallas Countyand district three disaster areas. He alsowarned people to be wary of snow in Western parts of the country and the rivers spilled their banks in other places.

"If you do not have to be on the road, pleasestay away from the road," he said at a press conference.

The weather service issued weather advisoriesfor much of the central United States, includingblizzard warnings for parts of New Mexico,Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas and watch flash flooding stretching from Texas to Indiana.

New Mexico Governor Susana Martinezdeclared a State of emergency for the entireState due to the winter storm expected to dump up to 2 feet of snow in the eastern part of the country.

Bad weather forcing cancellations of about 1150 in the nation at 3:30 PM EST on Sunday, according to Tracking Service FlightAware.com.About half of the flights cancelled were onDallas, US main hub flights.

In Texas, about 25000 customers without power on Sunday morning, according to the local utility.

Much of Arkansas is under the hazardousweather outlook, with some parts of the country are expected to be inundated with up to 6 inches (15 centimeters) of rain on Sunday.
