The fire charred some 1.235 acres between the coastal cities of Ventura and Carpinteria.Firefighters have dug containment lines around 70 percent of the fire by late afternoon, said a spokesman for the Ventura County Fire Department Captain Mike Lindbery.
"We have a handle on it, but the handle can bevery fragile if certain events occur," Lindberysaid.
Confronting firefighters was a wild wind or coalstarted to flare-ups outside the line of the detention.

The Fire Department also faces the challenge ofsteep Terrain, including cliffside sandy andunstable, while battling the blaze, saidLindbery.
The fire area is expected to see high temperature 57 F on Sunday, with humidity at 30 percent. Cooling temperatures would help the firefighting efforts, but the advantages ofthe dry vegetation will keep feeding the fire,Lindbery said.
The fire started on Friday night in Ventura County, 65 miles northwest of Los Angeles,when high winds knocked down power lines in the hilly area dry. Rapidly growing fire,consume about 250 acres per hour in the early stages, Lindbery said.
The fire triggered the closure of part of U.S.Highway 101, although North and Southsecond street was reopened to traffic in the late afternoon on Saturday.
Solimar Beach Community, the home of 50-60, and a nearby camp were under mandatoryevacuation Orders, while a volunteer has been issued to the General Faria Beach, where there are 30 to 40 homes, fire officials said.Evacuations that were later lifted.
